Baltimore-Washington Laborers’ District Council Announces Alexandria Endorsements
April 27th, 2021
Alexandria, VA– Today, the Baltimore-Washington Laborers’ District Council (BWLDC), an affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA!) announced its endorsements for the Mayor of Alexandria and members of the City Council in advance of the June 8, 2021 Democratic primary:
Mayor Justin Wilson
Councilmember John Taylor Chapman
Councilmember Canek Aguirre
Alyia Gaskins for Councilmember
Kirk McPike for Councilmember
Kevin Harris for Councilmember
James Lewis for Councilmember
“We are pleased to continue to support incumbents Mayor Wilson, Councilmember John Taylor Chapman, and Councilmember Canek Aguirre,” said BWLDC Business Manager Julio Palomo. “They are committed to an agenda that puts working people front and center, including moving forward with ordinances to establish collective bargaining for city employees and prevailing wages on city public works projects.” Recent changes in state law have made it permissible for local jurisdictions to adopt collective bargaining and prevailing wage ordinances, and Mayor Wilson and Councilmembers Chapman and Aguirre have ensured that Alexandria is at the vanguard of these efforts.
“We are also excited to support Alyia Gaskins, Kirk McPike, Kevin Harris, and James Lewis who collectively will bring fresh ideas and a more worker-centric viewpoint to the Alexandria City Council,” said Palomo.
The BWLDC is committed to identifying, endorsing, and supporting candidates for elected office whose values and priorities are consistent with those of its members. Today’s endorsements for the Alexandria City Council are part of that effort.
