Traffic and Parking Board chair James Lewis announces City Council campaign

With two City Council members throwing their hats into the ring to become Alexandria’s next mayor, there will be at least two new faces on the Council next year: James Lewis wants to be one of them.
Lewis, chair of the Traffic and Parking Board, previously ran for City Council in 2021.
“From my time on Capital Hill to my work with city boards and commissions, I spent my time working with neighbors to find solutions that make our community fair and stronger, and that’s why I’m running for City Council — because together we can keep Alexandria moving forward.”
During the last campaign, Lewis expressed opposition to co-locating affordable housing at schools and was opposed to the Seminary Road diet.
“We shouldn’t end bike lanes at an interstate and shouldn’t end them at an unsafe intersection,” Lewis said. “There was just an accident at Seminary and Quaker this week. Dumping people at an intersection that we know is unsafe is a bad idea.”
